Our work

Our work is guided by our Local Stewardship Plan with an aim to protect and enhance our local surf breaks and their related ecosystems. We work closely with all of the organisations on the Local Stewardship Council to enact this Local Stewardship Plan to conserve the surfing experience and make sure there are waves for all forever.

What is a Surf Ecosystem?

A surf ecosystem is more than a wave: it’s the geophysical components, the plants and animals, and the human interactions that make a place special. Protecting surf ecosystems in turn protects marine habitats, maintains the integrity of the wave, and safeguards local livelihoods.

A surf ecosystem is the land to sea interface that create the conditions for breaking, rideable waves, and the flora and fauna and human communities that are dependent upon it.”
